Respected eCertification

Humanitarians must have a passion to help others in distress but, equally important, possess the skills that will enable them to have a maximum positive impact while safeguarding everyone’s wellbeing – the beneficiaries, their organization and themselves.

The absence of globally recognized standards in humanitarian education and training contributes to a lack of quality and accountability in field operations. It affects all levels of response efforts – from coordination to front-line service provision. It also compromises safety and security and efficiency and effectiveness at a time when resources are few and the field is changing rapidly.

Humanitarian U is a leader in the effort to ‘professionalize’ the humanitarian sector by setting a global standard for education, training and certification. We believe that competency-based education plays a key part in ensuring that humanitarian workers are well-equipped—and thus prepared—to respond to the multiple challenges in the field.

Increasingly, countries requesting international humanitarian assistance in times of crisis are demanding that humanitarians demonstrate training and expertise relevant to the humanitarian sector in order to enter as part of an international humanitarian response team. More and more aid organizations require the same. Foreseeably, in the near future anyone wishing to engage in this field will need to be certified from a recognized provider.

Students must meet rigorous, competency-based objectives and performance metrics to successfully complete our programs and receive a certificate. These high standards ensure that our graduates are the best prepared, and most sought-after, humanitarian aid workers.

“Ensuring that aid workers are certified is a major step toward ensuring that international health efforts are held to the same quality standards and rules followed at home.”
